My story

How did I get here?

When I started out climbing in my early 20’s, I came up against so many psychological barriers that were affecting my climbing performance, enjoyment, engagement and overall, how I thought about my climbing. On the path to working past these barriers for myself is where I discovered how much rests on our minds

Degree in Sport & Exercise Psychology

To better understand and improve my psychological process and experience in climbing, I completed a BSc in Sport & Exercise Psychology. Throughout my studies, I took every opportunity to apply climbing to technical sport psychology principles and theories.

Science and experience

Combining academic science-backed literature and practices with my own climbing experience put climbing in a performance psychology perspective. This helped me better understand the psychology of climbing and performing to ultimately help others.

Climber to climber

I have over eight years of climbing experience indoors and out

I’m at my happiest when chalking up and pulling on or at the crag, enjoying a brew. I am also a video creator and storyteller on climbing calm’s YouTube channel, a Rab Equipment Athlete, Lattice Training and Petzl ambassador, and rock enthusiast (the solid aggregate of minerals.. not the music).

Core coaching beliefs

Summarised in the climbing calm symbol

The circle represents the individual, their mindset, experiences, and relationship with the things we do.

Circle supported by three foundations

  1. Understanding your mind - self awareness | Your psychology, mindset, values, motivations and emotions.

  2. Supporting you - environment and priorities | The habits, resources and demands that shape your wider life and your ability to participate sustainably.

  3. Holistic Growth - the whole picture | Creating a sustainable relationship with climbing that supports your potential beyond performance, giving you space to express, experience and grow.
